Location: Niamey, Niger
Event: The Civil Society Coalition is planning to conduct a march this Sunday, March 15, from Place Toumo to the National Assembly, between 9 am and 1 pm. The march will proceed northwest from Place Toumo to Terrain Musulman, and then continue southwest to the National Assembly. This march is to protest the government’s handling of individuals implicated with financial mismanagement in a recent audit. The Abdou Moumouni University Student Association, opposition political parties, and citizens have been invited to participate in this march. A large turnout of participants is currently expected.
The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens to exercise caution as demonstrations can occur suddenly anywhere throughout the city. If you see a crowd forming, do not attempt to drive through it. Leave the area and use an alternate route.
The Embassy will continue to review the security situation and provide additional information as appropriate.
