On February 19, Ambassador Eunice Reddick hosted a dinner at her residence for members of private and public Nigerien media outlets and associations to thank them for their support of the U.S. mission’s work in Niger. She took this opportunity to highlight the U.S. government’s commitment to freedom of the press and U.S. Embassy sponsored programs for the Nigerien press. Guest speaker Kim Selden, from U.S.-based communications consulting firm Global Media Project, talked about the importance of empowering women and youth through new media technology. The Global Media Project received a partial grant from the Public Affairs section to train young Nigerien women residing in disadvantaged and rural areas to use media technology to create their own public service announcements and messaging on various issues related to health, peace, and education.
