On Saturday July 2 the U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with the Organization for the Promotion of Excellence (OPE), hosted a blogging workshop for young women. A total of 15 students, including female journalists, writers, actresses, producers, women leaders, and entrepreneurs took part in the training. The Public Affairs A/V Tech, Goudia Hachirou, led the workshop, which covered the basics of creating a blog, updating content, and maintaining an audience.
In her opening remarks, the acting Public Affairs Officer stressed the U.S. Embassy’s support of women’s and girls’ empowerment in Niger and highlighted the power of blogs for freedom of expression and networking. Prominent Nigerien blogger Moctar Le Panafricain also attended the opening ceremony and encouraged the participants to blog about subjects they are passionate about.
For some of the participants the workshop was their first experience with blogging while for others it was a chance to improve blogs they had already started on their own. All the young women expressed left the workshop with functional blogs, check them out!
