Visa services, including for Diversity Visas, are not available at this time.

Please be advised there is a worldwide statutory annual limit on the number of Diversity Visas issued. And as of September 7, 2023, all available Diversity Visas for the 2023 DV Program had been issued.

Important Notice

The U.S. Embassy Niamey is currently providing all consular services. All appointments for nonimmigrant visa interviews (other than for diplomats and officials (A and G)) must be made through our NIV scheduling system. For Immigrant visa, visit the Immigrant visa process.

While U.S. Embassy Niamey aims to process visa cases as soon as practicable, there are increased wait times. We regret that we will not be able to interview all applicants before their desired travel dates. Due to the limited number of visa appointments we can offer, ALL applicants must be Nigerien citizens or residents of Niger if you are using the automated appointment system. If you are not a Nigerien citizen, you may contact us by email to be considered for an appointment.

We will keep adding more appointments as capacity allows. Applicants may book appointments even if their travel plans are not immediate to facilitate future business and tourist travel to the United States.  We encourage applicants who need an earlier appointment to regularly check the appointment scheduling website.

Expedited appointment availability is extremely limited. The majority of requests cannot be accommodated. If your unforeseen travel need meets one of the criteria listed below, you may request an expedited appointment:

  • Death/funeral of a close relative
  • F, M, or J program students or exchange visitors who need to begin or resume a valid program of study starting before the first available appointment date
    • English as a Second Language (ESL) programs that have rolling admissions DO NOT qualify for expedite appointments
    • Requests for F, M, and J expedites must include a copy of your passport, I-20, and SEVIS payment receipt.
  • Medical and humanitarian emergency traveler with life threatening emergencies
  • Urgent business travel of particular concern to an American business.

The purpose of your intended travel and other facts will determine what type of visa is required under U.S. immigration law. As a visa applicant, you will need to establish that you meet all requirements to receive the category of visa for which you are applying.

Rendez-vous & adresses

The U.S. Embassy is located in Niamey on Rue des Ambassades. The Embassy is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Visa Processing

Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview by a consular officer. Applicants are advised of this requirement when they apply. Most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days of the visa interview. When administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on the individual circumstances of each case.  You can check the status of your visa application on ceac.state.gov.

  • We will treat you with dignity and respect, even if we are unable to grant you a visa.
  • We will treat you as an individual and your case as unique.
  • We will remember that, to you, a visa interview may be a new or intimidating experience and that you may be nervous.
  • We will use the limited time available for the interview to get as full a picture as possible of your travel plans and intentions.
  • We will use our available resources to fairly assist all applicants to get appointments to allow travel in time for business, study, and other important obligations.
  • We will post detailed and accurate information on visa requirements and application procedures on every Embassy and Consulate website.
  • We will provide information on non-immigrant appointment waiting times at every Embassy and Consulate posted on https://travel.state.gov.
  • We will explain the reason for any visa denial to you.

Furthermore, if you are a:

  • Student, we will make every effort to ensure that you get an appointment and, if qualified, a visa in time to start classes.
  • Medical and humanitarian emergency traveler, we will expedite processing for those dealing with life threatening emergencies.
  • Business traveler, we will establish appropriate mechanisms to facilitate business travel and expedite cases of particular concern to American business.

At the same time, we expect you, the visa applicant, to:

  • Plan your travel and visa application as far in advance as possible.
  • Complete your application fully and accurately.
  • Be forthcoming about your purpose and plans.
  • Prepare for your interview by being able to clearly and concisely describe your intentions

Aménagement raisonnable

Si vous avez besoin d’un aménagement raisonnable, nous vous encourageons à en faire la demande dès que vous prenez rendez-vous. Nous faisons de notre mieux pour répondre aux besoins des personnes handicapées ou dont l’état de santé nécessite un aménagement. Les aménagements raisonnables varient en fonction de la situation et des besoins de la personne.

Voici quelques exemples d’aménagements :

  • Si vous avez besoin d’un rendez-vous privé en raison d’un problème de santé ou d’un handicap, nous pouvons modifier la date ou l’heure de votre entretien.
  • Si vous ou votre enfant avez des besoins particuliers qui imposent un rendez-vous privé dans un endroit calme et sans distractions, nous pouvons modifier la date ou l’heure de l’entretien.
  • Si vous ne pouvez pas parler, vous pouvez être autorisé à répondre aux questions d’une manière non verbale convenue, par exemple en utilisant un stylo et du papier.
  • Si vous êtes sourd ou malentendant, vous pouvez vous faire accompagner d’un interprète en langue des signes.
  • Si vous avez une déficience visuelle, nous pouvons vous fournir des documents en gros caractères.

Si vous n’êtes pas en mesure de donner vos empreintes digitales en raison d’un problème médical, par exemple une anomalie congénitale, une malformation physique ou une affection cutanée, vous pouvez bénéficier d’une dispense de prise d’empreintes digitales pour les doigts concernés.

  • Les dispenses d’entretien ne sont accordées que dans des situations extrêmes, par exemple un état de santé nécessitant l’utilisation d’une ambulance aérienne.
