On March 24, the U.S. Embassy’s Information Resource Center (IRC) held a discussion in commemoration of Women’s History Month about the female characters in The Color Purple, written by American author Alice Walker.  The book depicts the life and challenges of women in the United States and discusses themes related to their empowerment.  The Public Affairs Officer Marissa Scott delivered remarks followed by a presentation by moderator Dr. Kindo Aissata, a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey. Participating guests included lecturers, students, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and members of the press. The discussion was held at the American Cultural Center.
