
On August 14, the American Cultural Center hosted a preview screening of the Hausa-language documentary Mamar Kyota by Professor Pearl Robinson. Robinson, who is a professor of political science at Tufts University, spent 10 years working on the film about Saïda Oumul Khairy Niasse (known as Mama Kyota) and the female empowerment strategy of her Niger-based Sufi Muslim women’s association, the Jamiyat Nassirat Dine (JND).
