As part of its Ramadan outreach, the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section produced a 3-minute video featuring American embassy staff wishing “happy Ramadan” in the nine local languages spoken in Niger (Zarma, Hausa, French, Arabic, Gurmentchema, Tamasheq, Peuhl, Toubou, and Kanuri). American officers from sections across the embassy participated, including the Charge d’ Affaires, and concluded with a “Ramadan Kareem.” Copies of the video were distributed to all 12 TV stations and main radio stations throughout Niger, and the video is posted on the embassy’s Facebook page, YouTube channel and website. The video was shown for the first time on June 30 during the embassy’s annual Grand Iftar event. During the event, the Chargé Richard Bell welcomed the 150-175 guests from government, business, religious, youth, and the diplomatic corps, with a short speech highlighting the USG’s respect for Islam and Post’s desire to share this special time of year with our Nigerien friends. In addition to the Ramadan Kareem video, a buffet followed, with a screening of the 2013 TV Co-op production on Muslims in America.
