Location:  Niger, countrywide

Event:  The Government of Niger announced the closure of its air, land, and river borders for Sunday, December 13, 2020 due to elections. The borders closed just for the elections are scheduled to reopen the following day, December 14, 2020.  The same measures may be taken for the other upcoming elections on December 27, 2020 and February 21, 2021.

Sunday, December 13, 2020:  Local and Regional Elections

Sunday, December 27, 2020:  Legislative & First Round Presidential Elections

Sunday, February 21, 2021:  Presidential Election Second Round, if needed

Niger Land Borders

Land borders have been closed since March 19, except for merchandise and passengers with special permission.

Airport Arrival Procedure Updates

Travelers are no longer required to surrender their passports upon arrival in Niger as a COVID-19 preventive measure.  Travelers arriving at international airports in Niger will have their temperature taken and must present a negative COVID-19 test certificate that is dated within the previous 72 hours.

Quarantine Information:

Travelers who intend to stay in Niger for more than 14 days are required to provide a contact telephone number in Niger and are required to go into quarantine for a period of seven days at a precise address.  Government of Niger officials may visit each individual in quarantine to verify they are respecting quarantine regulations.  At the end of their quarantine period, travelers are asked to visit the COVID testing facility in Village Chinois for a COVID-19 rapid test, given free by the Nigerien Ministry of Public Health.
