U.S. Embassy Niamey informs U.S. citizens that demonstrations are expected to take place today in Niamey at the Arena de Lutte National from 3:30 pm to early evening. The Front Patriotique et Republican will be demonstrating with the stated purpose of protesting against the Ministry of the Interior’s refusal to recognize their legitimacy.
Please remember, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
