U.S. Embassy Niamey informs U.S. citizens that demonstrations are expected to take place in Niamey, beginning at Round Point Sixieme and ending at the Place de la Concertation, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am on June 2, 2015. Civil society, political and special interest groups will be demonstrating with the stated purpose of protesting against the government of Niger.
Please remember, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
We also strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Niger enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at travel.state.gov. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
