Washington, D.C.—The U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) held its annual country selection meeting on December 16, 2015. As part of this meeting, MCC’s Board of Directors (Board) reviewed all countries in compact development, including Niger.
After reviewing Niger’s strong commitment to the partnership, as well as Niger’s continued passing of the MCC scorecard, MCC’s Board approved efforts to continue developing the compact. Consistent with the importance MCC places on democratic rights, MCC also expects that Niger’s upcoming 2016 elections will be free and fair, as well as protective of freedom of expression.
As a result of this decision, MCC looks forward to completing compact development, and hopes to bring the compact forward for approval in 2016.
