On February 18, the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section hosted a workshop for female Nigerien journalists focusing on “Media Approaches to Social Issues.”  The trainer, Kim Selden, is the founder and CEO of Global Media Project (a New York-based communications consulting firm). This workshop built on a previous workshop led by Ms. Selden in March of 2013 for the same group of women. The Global Media Project received a partial grant from the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section to  train young Nigerien women residing in disadvantaged and rural areas to use media technology to create their own public service announcements and messaging on various issues related to health, peace, and education. The purpose is to contribute to strengthening democracy and empowering the citizens of Niger by providing training on advocacy tools for social issues. This activity also contributes to achieving the U.S. mission’s goals of empowering women and engaging with youth.
